Will I lose subtitle tracks when converting MKV to MP4?
MP4 has much more limited subtitle support than MKV. Soft subtitle tracks in formats like ASS/SSA generally do not survive the conversion. If subtitles matter, extract them first or keep the original MKV as an archive copy.
Is MKV to MP4 conversion slow?
When the MKV already contains H.264 video and AAC audio, the conversion is mostly repackaging and runs quickly. If the streams need re-encoding (for example VP9 or FLAC audio into an MP4-compatible codec), it takes longer, roughly in line with the video duration.
