Six new tools: Green Screen Remover, Screen Recorder, and more
muxTools grows from 31 to 37 tools - green screen removal, screen recording, GIF to video, frame extraction, audio-to-video muxing, and a pitch changer. All free, all local, nothing uploaded.
muxTools just grew from 31 to 37 tools - and got a completely new look while we were at it. The new dashboard puts every tool in a grouped sidebar so you can jump between them without going back to a homepage, and the whole site now runs on a dark, studio-style theme.
As always, every one of these tools runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed locally with WebAssembly and never touch a server - no uploads, no accounts, no watermarks.
Green Screen Remover
The most requested addition: chroma key your videos right in the browser. Upload footage shot against a green or blue screen (or any solid color - there is a custom color picker), tune the similarity and edge-blend sliders until the background disappears, and choose what replaces it: full transparency, a solid color, or your own background image.
Transparent output is saved as WebM with a real alpha channel, so it drops straight into editors and OBS as an overlay. Color and image backgrounds render to standard MP4.
Screen Recorder
Record your screen, a window, or a single browser tab with the new Screen Recorder - no extension, no desktop app, no upload. Toggle microphone narration on and your voice is mixed with the system audio. Recordings save as WebM files directly to your machine.
Because it uses the browser's built-in capture APIs, there is nothing to install and nothing that phones home. It is the same privacy story as every other muxTools tool: the recording exists only on your device.
GIF to Video
The reverse of our Video to GIF tool: convert animated GIFs to MP4 or WebM. Real video files are typically 80-95% smaller than the equivalent GIF, autoplay properly on social platforms, and stop melting phones when embedded on web pages. The tool shows you the size difference after conversion.
Video to Images
Extract still frames from any video as PNG or JPG - every half second, every second, or at longer intervals. Frames preview in a grid and download as a single ZIP. Handy for thumbnails, image sequences, or grabbing that one perfect frame.
Add Audio to Video
We have had Remove Audio for a while; now there is the other direction. Add a music track or voiceover to any video, either replacing the original sound or mixing on top of it with adjustable volume. The video stream is copied without re-encoding, so it is fast and loses zero quality.
Audio Pitch Changer
Shift audio pitch up or down by up to 12 semitones while the tempo stays exactly the same. Transpose a backing track into your vocal range, make nightcore edits, or match two samples to the same key - the duration of the file never changes.
What did not make the cut (yet)
A few often-requested tools are not possible with the current in-browser engine: burning subtitles into video and video stabilization both need libraries that do not ship in the WebAssembly FFmpeg build. AI background removal (no green screen needed) is on the roadmap for the upcoming editor.
If one of the new tools saves you time, consider supporting the project - muxTools is free, has no ads, and stays that way.
